English School of Mui Ne

History

ES-MN was founded in the spring of 2007 by Marcus Robell, a young Swede with no previous experience of working with non-profit organizations. Marcus had visited Vietnam earlier that year to compete in a surfing competition held in the strong winds of Mui Ne. Marcus quickly became very fond of Mui Ne and made many new friends among the members of the community. Among the people he got to know during his stay in Mui Ne were three children living and working at at the guesthouse where he was staying. As the children told him that they were very eager to learn English, Marcus managed, despite his very poor Vietnamese, to teach them a few words in English.

In Stockholm a few months later, as Marcus and few friends were discussing how they could support these three students in their ambition to learn English, the idea of English School of  Mui Ne was born. Funds were collected from friends, family and ES-MN’s first big donor, The Children in Need Foundation. In November of 2007 Marcus returned to Mui Ne  determined to start working on building the school.

In March 2008, after a lot of hard work by the local manager of ES-MN (Miss Nguyen Ho Lam Vy),  volunteers from Stockholm and local politicians, the school had its grand opening with no less than five classes with twenty ambitious and hopeful students in each class.

The start of a new beginning for the less fortunate children of Mui Ne was made possible thanks to many hard working friends and with one common goal – to educate and help.
